Waiapu Anglican Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Napier - New Zealand

 

Work has commenced on rebuilding and enlarging the organ of St John’s Cathedral Napier to the below specification. It will honour the existing work of the 1974 Croft and 1884 Lewis and introduce an enclosed Solo Division as a 4th manual in memory of the former 1907 Dodd Organ destroyed in the 1931 earthquake. A new 4 manual mobile terraced drawstop console will be installed at floor level. The Positive division will be relocated in the north loft formerly occupied by the console. The Solo will be placed alongside the Swell in the former Positive chamber. The Tromba will share the North loft with the Positive. The Fanfare Trumpet will be completed to full compass . Completion date February

Our vision for the organ is to honour the work of Ken Aplin and the Croft firm and the original Lewis heritage. It will be a testament to Gary who has given incredible service to the Cathedral and Church music. It will also honour the work of Josiah Dodd whose 1907 organ was destroyed in the 1931 earthquake.
